Timeless Tips On Stress Management

Two years ago,a young man walked into my office. He was in his mid-thirties.A bank executive who was in charge of setting up loans for customers at his branch. He had being on the job for over 5years.He earned good money, drove a flashy Mercedes and lived in a tastefully furnished Two-Bedroom apartment.
As he staggered into my office,I sensed his unhappiness. He was fidgety and couldn't sit still for one minute. He said he had been ill for 6weeks.He had visited several hospitals but didn't feel any better. As I began to probe deeper,I discovered that he was close to a nervous breakdown. He was under a lot of stress.
Sounds familiar?Reminds you of yourself?Possibly. Some of us have 7am-7pm jobs that we hate so much but can't do without. The job pays the bills but erodes our health.Or,you may be an overworked Housewife who is mentally and physically drained by nightfall. It's like been between the devil and the deep blue sea!
Over the next few days,I am going to give you practical tips that will help you cope with the daily rigors of life.I will tell you the things I told that young man that sprung him back to health.I will be doing a 5-series expose on Stress Management. But first, lets understand what stress really means......

 WHAT IS STRESS?
Simply put, stress is the wear and tear of the body in response to stressors.(stressful agents).Stressors could be physical or psychological e,g heat, public criticism, excessive workload,an annoying customer,a sick child etc.
Stress in our daily lives are events or experiences that produce severe strain. It may be unavoidable and when it is persistent and sustained,it could result in serious impairment(injury to our body systems). The management of stress therefore is not a"one-time" event but a continous process.
In my next post,I will be talking about the variants of stress,it's effects on the body, and how you can know the danger signals of stress.
Till then,stay healthy!
